To me, they are the wise beings of the seas, and I believe they may have seen Atlantis, the lost civilization said to exist in the depths. For this reason, I created a Great Sage with a single large eye, symbolizing the ability to see everything. ​ After finishing the sculpture, I hung it high above the ground and painted it in that position. As I stood in front of it, observing how it looked, I suddenly noticed something completely different. When I viewed it from the opposite side not from the angle I had intended it revealed the head of a long beaked bird. The beak was even longer than that of an ordinary bird, very distinctive and characteristic. While wondering how I had never noticed this before, I was also trying to remember where I had seen such a bird. ​ Then suddenly the image appeared in my mind... It was Thoth, the Egyptian god of wisdom, depicted with the body of a man and the head of a long-beaked bird. As I researched this connection more deeply, I came across something even more fascinating. ​ In history, Egypt appears not as the continuation of a dynasty or lineage, but almost as if it emerged suddenly as a fully formed civilization.
